There is alot of Mythology in Star Wars, but alot of people just don't see it.

A New Hope

Heroes always get calls to adventures (that is an obvious one). Luke is asked by Obi-Wan to go to Alderaan to help the princess.

And sometimes at first they refuse the call because they have other things to do, but eventually get mixed up in it. Like when Luke said he needs to stay home and help his uncle with the farm, but he ends up going after their death. This can be like when Oddysius wanted to stay home and not go fight in the Trojan Wars, maybe because of his baby.

The hero is usually hidden from someone at birth, usually the father, like Luke and Leia's case. They were both hidden from Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Luke was sent to Tatooine to live with his aunt and uncle. This is like when Zeus or when Perseus was hidden from their fathers.

In all myths there is someone who is a wise and helpful guide, or a magic tailsman. Obi-Wan Kenobi is Lukes guide. He helps him throughout the trilogy. This is symbolic of a God, or a divine person.

Heroes always have partners, weather its a god or another person. Luke has Han Solo, Chewie, R2-D2, C-Threepio, Leia, etc. He has many people that help him through out the trilogy.

When they go into the Death Star to rescue the princess, it is like going into the labyrinth to kill the Minotaur. Vader was like the minotaur, he hunted them down when they were on the Death Star.

The hero usually loses their guide while on the quest and have to do things for themselves. This is like when Obi-Wan died and they had to get through things without him.

The hero always slays their "dragon." And acomplish the heroes deed. This is like when they destroyed the Death Star.

The Empire Strikes Back:

There is always some kind of hunt in mythology. Like Perseus hunting Medusa, or Jason hunting the golden fleece. Well the Empire hunts the Rebellion.

There is always a sacred grove in myths, its where the hero can get away from his/her troubles. Well Lukes "sacred grove" is Yoda's hideout on Degobah. Its where he goes to train, and get away from the Empire.

There is always a sacrifice or a betrayal in myths. This is when they sacrificed Han and he was frozen in carbonite, and this was caused from Landos' betrayal.

Return of the Jedi:

There is always a Heroes return, this is like Luke and going into Jabbas palace. Or how the jedi are returning.

There is usually a resurretion in myths, this is like Han being brought back, out of the carbonite. This is like when Hercules goes into Haydes and brought back Theseus.

There is always a monster combat, this is when Luke fights the Rancor. There are many examples of this through out the myths. All the heros fight some kind of monster.

There is always a regeneration of evil. The Death Star was rebuilt.

There are enchanted forests & helpful animals in myths. In Star wars this is the planet of Endor, and on that planet there are Ewoks. They help them during the battle.

There is always some kind of descent in to darkness. In Star Wars this is when Luke goes to the Death Star to redeem his father from the Darkside.

The hero always comes out of the conflict victorious. The Jedi are brought back, the Empire has fallen, the New Republic is beginning to be formed, and they burned Darth Vaders suit.
